Antes desta última visita, eu já havia estado em Madrid duas vezes. Mas tirando o Museu do Prado e a Guernica, eu não saberia dizer precisamente o que faz de Madrid uma cidade tão especial. É verdade que eu sou mais de metrópoles do que de cidades à beira-mar. Enquanto a maioria das pessoas que eu conheço prefere Barcelona, eu sou fã de Madrid. E, desta vez, eu fiz questão de anotar os porquês.
Para começar, Madrid é mais limpa e organizada do que Barcelona (andar pelas Ramblas me dá arrepios só de pensar). É uma cidade onde você se sente bem logo que chega.
Bom, Madrid tem o Museu do Prado, mas também tem o Reina Sofia e dezenas de outros museus e centros culturais. Tem restaurantes sensacionais a preços incrivelmente baixos (será que é só para quem vem de Moscou?). Tem a Gran Via, onde você pode caminhar e ver todos os outros turistas. Madrid tem parques maravilhosos, onde você pode fazer de tudo (talvez até o que você deve estar pensando agora): eu vi desde casais em barquinhas de remo até um casamento indiano. Se você gosta de futebol, Madrid ainda tem o estádio Santiago Bernabeu, uma obra de arte em termos futebolísticos. O acesso é tão bem planejado que as arquibancadas enchem 5 minutos antes do jogo começar e esvaziam com a mesma velocidade.
Como se isso tudo não fosse suficiente, Madrid hoje é o lar de muitos amigos meus: ex-colegas de faculdade, ex-colegas de trabalho e até colegas de Moscou que estavam fazendo intercâmbio.
Espero que eu tenha dado motivos suficientes para você substituir sua viagem a Barcelona por uma ida a Madrid. Garanto que você não vai se arrepender.

Before this last visit, I had already been to Madrid twice. But except for the Prado Museum and the Guernica, I wouldn't be able to put a finger on what exactly is so special about this city. I must say that I'm more of a metropolis than a city-by-the-sea type of person. While most people I know love Barcelona, I'm prefer Madrid. And during this visit, I made sure to write down why?
For starters, Madrid is cleaner and much more organized than Barcelona (the very thought of walking down the Ramblas gives me the creeps). It's a city where you feel good the moment you step out of the plane.
What else? Well, Madrid has the Prado, but it also has the Reina Sofia and a dozen different museum and cultural centers. It has sensational restaurants with even more sensational prices (or is it because I come from Moscow?). It has the Gran Via, where you can walk and spot all other tourists. Madrid has amazing parks, where you can do whatever you want (even what you are probably thinking right now): I saw things that ranged from couples in small rowing boats to an Indian wedding. If you like football, Madrid has the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, a masterpiece in football terms. The access to the seats is so well planned, that the bleachers fill up 5 minutes before kick-off and empty at a similar pace.
Besides all that, Madrid is the current home of many old friends: ex-colleagues from university, ex-coworkers and even colleagues from Moscow who were working abroad for a while.
I hope I have given you enough reasons to replace Barcelona for Madrid on your next trip. I bet you'll love it.
